A word that once it grabs ahold of you, makes feeling breaking free from it, nearly impossible. I'm writing this post because this is one of the realest fears I have ever come across. When doubt sets in, it can be a emotionally crippling experience. But there are ways to overcome it. But first we have to understand what it is.
Doubt is tied to trust. Have you ever wondered why when you don't trust someone or something, you find that you doubt everything they do or say? Have you ever been in a position where you admired something whole heartily, and it turns out not to be what you expected. You doubt it from this point on that it will never truly be what you thought it was. Have you ever had faith and so many bad things happen, one right after another, that you doubt if there truly is something to believe in?
What's the reason why? Doubt.
Doubt is when you lose hope, a feeling of uncertainty or lack of conviction. You can no longer trust your initial instincts and given the new perspective, you begin to question everything. This can lead to depression, anxiety and anti-social behaviors that are unhealthy for any individual.
So how do you overcome doubt?
Look at your life as falling into place.
When doubt sets in, tell yourself this is for the greater good! Don't let the bad experience change your perspective on all the good things that are happening. Tell yourself stop if you have to. Be forceful. Yell if you have to! Force yourself to have a positive outlook on what can come of the situation. Write down three things that will be good now that this has happened. From that point on, focus on those things. Soon the doubt will dissolve away, faith will set in.
Don't be your worst enemy.
Just because it failed, doesn't make you a failure. Failure happens to every person who sets out to experience new things. Understand, life is all about risk. It's a win or lose situation but in no means is it a reflection of your capability to prosper. In-fact, it shows that you are making steps to better yourself in one regard or another, and that's progress. So to overcome this kind of doubt, when the task you set out to achieve doesn't work in your favor, take a short time to understand why it didn't work. Then from your findings, sharpen those skills emotionally or intellectually. Look at this as an opportunity to grow as a well rounded individual. Learn from this and come out on the other side better.
When you kept your heart guarded, that's where the doubt started.
Your heart is a very powerful organ, physically and emotionally. Daily the heart pumps at least 2,500 gallons (9,450 liters) of blood. The heart has the ability to beat over 3 billion times in a person's life. The strongest muscle based on its weight is the masseter. Now tell me that's not impressive! But with this comes great responsibility. It's your responsibility to not dwell in a broken heart, not just with love, but with faith, religion, and life.
When you keep your heart guarded, you doubt the integrity of every situation, person and lose hope. I have found that when you allow yourself to be open, even if it results in being heartbroken. You often times find that your heart grows stronger. It's like being sick, if you never subject your self to bacteria your whole life, a minor cold can kill you. But if you have been subjected to bacteria your whole life, and gotten sick often, your immune system builds and you come out on the other side stronger. You find the things that used to hurt you no longer do and every road you've taken has moved you forward. You become smarter, you become tougher, and you find yourself far away from the battles of your past. The best part about it, is you've left your heart open which means the future holds endless possibilities for love to find its way in. Which gives you a positive energy force that will crush any doubt that tries to set in.
"Keep your heart open and love will always find it's way in." - Jane Seymour
Now there are many different ways to overcome doubt. But these are some of my favorites! I hope this helped you!
