Before I begin, I apologize in advance that this will be a brief blog story, because I had a lot of family in town this week for a reunion. And time management got the best of me. I've known what I wanted this topic to be for a long time. I may revisit it in the future. But for now, I will just give you an overcast of my thoughts on it.
People ask me all the time given the field I'm in, how do you not fear the unknown?
Our business is riddled with them like land minds. Each day you wake up not knowing if you'll cross paths with one. Some days you do, some days you don't. But it's the nature of the business.
But it's not just my business, in life as well we have things we don't know how they are going to come to fruition of what will happen when we make a decision. These things can hinder us from realizing our true potentials.
You've heard this before, "The only thing you have to fear is fear itself."
Fear is the first thing that sets in when we don't completely understand something or know what to do when something happens. Fear is a monster, it's a consumer and liar and it cripples you by the time it's done with you. The only way to over come it in my opinion is to understand it. Not just it but also where it's coming from.
A man does not fear the rain, he fears where it comes from. - American Bred
For example, you second guess yourself going into a interview for that job you've always wanted because you are afraid you are under-qualified. Therefore in the interview you tank it because all you can think about is the fear of not being good enough. Had you gone into the interview, un-shaken by the fear of un-qualification, put your best foot forward and demonstrated un-wavering confidence. Chances are you would have got that job.
What was the true fear here? It was not the job. It was the lack of confidence in yourself.
That is where you need to start. That is what you need to understand. How to build confidence in yourself. Because until you do, fear will pray on that weakness and it will radiate into every aspect of your life.
Before I go, let me give you a secret tool of mine I use to combat Fear.
For me I find my strength comes from FAITH. Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. It is the light to Fear's darkness. Both dwelling in the unknown. But one is positive and one is negative. For me I grapple onto the positive. When ever fear sets in I put my energy in my Faith that there is a reason these things are happening and as long as I keep a positive outlook, only good can come from this.
Guys I'm sorry to say, I am running out of time. I didn't get a chance to go in depth as much as I would have liked. But I will revisit this topic in the future. Because it's something I am very passionate about. Sorry for the short blog post this week. #barewithme, it's all still a work in progress. :)
I walk by faith to always move forward even when I can not see.
